Harwich Half Marathon, in Essex England, started in 1982 and continued until 1991. The early 80's running boom attracted over a thousand runners to the Harwich Half Marathon. Some of those who were enticed to try running back then, are the founders of Harwich Runners and are still involved in the club today.

As part of the Mayflower 2020 celebrations, the Harwich Half Marathon will return on Sunday 5th April 2020. The race will be run on closed roads using elements of the original route and taking in the beautiful landmarks around Harwich.

Alongside the race there will be various entertainment providing a festival atmosphere combining a professionally organised race alongside community and fund raising opportunities. Profits from the event will be put back in to the local community via the Harwich Runners and the Rotary Club of Harwich and Dovercourt.

The return of the Harwich Half Marathon race in 2020 marks the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower. The official Mayflower 400 commemorations are an exciting year-long programme of ambitious cultural and artistic events.
